چکیده

For the representation of acoustic characteristics of threedimensional vocal-tract shapes, it is necessary to consider the e ects of higher-order modes. This paper proposes an acoustic model of the vocal-tract which incorporates the coupling of the higher-order modes, including both propagative and evanescent modes. A cascaded structure of acoustic tubes connected asymmetrically is introduced as a physical approximation of the vocal-tract. The acoustic characteristics, which are dependent not only on the vocal-tract area function but also on the vocal-tract con guration, can be investigated by the proposed model. Preliminary results of numerical computations for relatively simple con gurations suggest that additional resonances at frequencies above 4.3kHz are formed by the propagative higher-order modes, while those at frequencies below 3 kHz are in uenced by the evanescent higher-order modes. These results are also con rmed by the FEM simulations.

Effects of wall impedance on transmission and attenuation of higher-order modes in vocal-tract model

This paper presents the effects of a wall impedance on the propagation of higher-order modes in a three-dimensional vocal-tract model. This model is constructed using an asymmetrically connected structure of rectangular acoustic tubes, and can parametrically represent acoustic characteristics in higher frequencies where the assumption of the plane wave propagation does not hold. The propagation...

Three-dimensional rectangular vocal-tract model with asymmetric wall impedances

A method to compute the acoustic characteristics of a simplified three-dimensional vocal-tract model with asymmetric wall impedances is presented. The acoustic field is represented in terms of both plane waves and higher-order modes in tubes. This model is constructed using a connected structure of rectangular acoustic tubes, and can parametrically represent acoustic characteristics in higher f...

Computation of 3-d vocal tract acoustics based on mode-matching technique

A model for calculating the acoustic characteristics of 3-D vocal tract con guration is presented. A mode-matching technique and an impedance transformation are used to calculate the higher-order modes in this model where both propagative and evanescent higher-order modes are considered. A cascaded structure of rectangular acoustic tubes is introduced as an approximation of the real vocal tract...

Study on Generation of Higher Order Orbital Angular Momentum Modes and Parameters Affecting the Vortex

In this manuscript, higher-order Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) modes and parameters affecting vortex in the radiation pattern have been studied. A uniform circular array resonating at 10 GHz frequency is formed using eight identical rectangular patch antennas. Three uniform circular arrays are analyzed, simulated, and fabricated for OAM modes 0, +1, and -1 respectively. The higher-order OAM mo...

Vocal tract acoustics using the transmission line matrix (TLM) method

Most traditional theories of speech production are currently based on plane waves and on one-dimensional analysis. It i s however well-known that when the frequency of sound reaches a cut-on frequency, higher acoustical modes start to propagate and can become predominant. It is therefore important to evaluate the effects of these higher modes, especially in order to improve acoustical models of...
